Topic description
A research thesis of approximately 8,000 words to be written under the supervision of a member of the staff. The thesis is to give evidence of the student's abilities in collecting and evaluating information and critically examining theories in the area of enquiry.
Educational aims
The aim of this topic is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to undertake independent research with minimal supervision. A research thesis/report of approximately 8,000 words to be written under the supervision of a member of the staff. The thesis is to give evidence of the student's abilities in collecting and evaluating information and critically examining theories in the area of enquiry.
Expected learning outcomes
At the completion of the topic, students are expected to be able to:

  1. Develop a research project
  2. Carry out a background literature search and synthesis
  3. Carry out analysis of spatial data to address a research question
  4. Write a minor research thesis communicating the results of their research project
