Topic description
This topic facilitates individual study of a practice area. It is aimed at students of the Remote Health Practice program where the established practice topics are not suitable. A learning contract with aims and objectives are developed in negotiation with the topic coordinator. It involves completion of agreed assessments of clinical/professional skills, knowledge and attitudes. The emphasis is placed on application and practice.
Educational aims
The topic provides remote health professionals with an opportunity to undertake a learning contract focussed on developing skills and knowledge that will make a unique contribution to the health outcomes of remote and Indigenous people.
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate skills in accessing and utilizing evidence based knowledge and practice guidelines in clinical, public health and social sciences

  • Consider history, colonization, access and health need in the planning and provision of health care to isolated, marginalized and Indigenous people

  • Apply knowledge to confidently and competently carry out a range of procedures, treatment and interventions within a collaborative model of Primary Health Care applicable to the remote and Indigenous health context

  • Utilize available technology to overcome barriers of distance and accurately communicate assessment and management information both verbally and in written form

  • Exhibit resourceful, respectful and reflective practice.
