Topic description
The topic focuses on the preparation of pre-service teachers for teaching and living in rural contexts. Rural is inclusive of all locations other than urban or metropolitan- typically referred to in Australia as 'rural, regional and remote'.

The topic is essentially designed and structured around three 'voices'- 'voices from the literature and the research', 'voices from the field', and the 'voices of pre-service teachers'.

The 'voices from the literature and research' section comprises 3 strands: contexts, issues and practice.

The 'voices from the field' comprise inputs from people currently working in or who have taught in rural and regional schools and contexts.
Educational aims
To prepare pre-service teachers for living and teaching in rural communities through engagement with relevant issues, knowledge, skills and experiences.
Expected learning outcomes
A well grounded and informed understanding of ways and means to be a professional teacher in a rural context.
