Topic description
This topic introduces students to micro-documentary production including concept development, skill acquisition, production techniques and ethical issues.

Seminars will focus on research, development, scripting and directing short documentary production and workshops will focus on conceptual and technical skill acquisition including pitching, producing, camera and lighting, location sound recording, editing and sound design for documentary production.
Educational aims
This topic aims to:

  • introduce students to the concepts of micro-documentary production

  • introduce students to the concepts of developing and scripting a micro-documentary project

  • provide opportunities for students to further develop production skills including producing, directing, camera, lighting and sound recording

  • provide opportunities for students to further develop post-production skills including editing, sound design, colour grading and DVD authoring to deliver micro-documentary projects

  • instill in students the importance of planning and group collaboration to achieve their creative production goals

  • further develop skills in risk assessing and generating paperwork for a screen production project
Expected learning outcomes
On completing this topic students will be able to:
