Topic description

This topic will focus on women's health issues across the life span, and the impact on and by pregnancy and childbirth. Students will develop further clinical skills, particularly related to gynaecology care. This topic includes professional experience placements in related clinical areas.

Educational aims

This topic aims to enable students to develop their critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills in relation to the continuum of women's health issues across the lifespan as related midwifery practice.

Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of women's sexual and reproductive health and development across the lifespan
  2. Critically reflect on the role of the midwife in promoting sexual and reproductive health
  3. Discuss ethical and legal issues in relation to sexual and reproductive health
  4. Demonstrate clinical skills related to women’s health and gynecology
