Topic description

This topic will provide students with a basic understanding of how to take existing knowledge or research in tourism, archaeology, cultural heritage or environmental studies, and adapt it for digital stories on a range of screen mediums including television, online, museums, DVD for corporate and community exhibition.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  • Introduce students to the basic elements of adapting existing knowledge and research to digital stories
  • Introduce students to the basic elements of writing digital stories
  • Provide students with opportunities to identify and develop research and writing skills
  • Instil in students the importance of research and writing in digital story telling
  • Enable students to develop and complete a short digital story treatment and script from concept to working draft within a limited time
  • Provide students with opportunities to collaborate creatively and problem solve with their peers
  • Provide students with an opportunity to 'pitch' their work to their peers
Expected learning outcomes
On completion of this topic you will be expected to be able to:

  1. Identify archaeology, tourism, cultural heritage or environmental content and conceptual elements for research and writing of short digital stories
  2. Evaluate and further develop research and writing skills for digital stories
  3. Develop a concept and working synopsis, outline and treatment for a short digital story
  4. Present written work in formats used by community and corporate organisations, funding agencies, commissioning editors and broadcasters
  5. Collaborate with peers in digital story telling concept development
  6. Pitch a concept for a digital story telling audio visual production
  7. Demonstrate problem solving on a creative piece of work
