Topic description

This topic will consider gender mainstreaming as a strategy for the achievement of gender equality. In order to develop a critical understanding of doing gender mainstreaming, students will investigate how this strategy has been adopted by international agencies, non-government organisations, government agencies and community based organisations. Opportunities will be provided for students to develop their own skills to mainstream gender into organisations, policies, plans and projects through the application of selected gender mainstreaming tools to case studies from Australia and other countries.

Educational aims

This topic aims to:

  3. Critically assess contemporary gender mainstreaming debates
  4. Identify appropriate gender mainstreaming tools for application in particular contexts and circumstances
  5. Apply to case studies and critique selected gender mainstreaming tools
