Flinders Eye Centre
The Department of Ophthalmology is closely linked to the Flinders Eye Centre, based within the Flinders Private Hospital.
Flinders Eye Centre Clinic offers public and private services for people with medical conditions of the eye. The clinic manages all types of ophthalmological problems.
Several of the practitioners working in the Flinders Eye Centre Clinic are members of the Flinders University Department of Ophthalmology, which enables many of our research projects to be carried out in a real world clinical setting, and provides opportunities for students to complete placements within the clinic.
The Eye Bank of South Australia
The Eye Bank of South Australia collects and distributes donated eyes from across South Australia, for use in sight-restoring corneal graft surgery. It also works closely with the members of the Department on several projects, including the Australian Corneal Graft Registry.
We are privileged to have them onsite at Flinders Medical Centre, enabling collaboration on laboratory-based research using donated eye tissue that has been unsuitable for transplantation.
