What will you study in the Honours program?

The Bachelor of Medical Science (Honours) builds on core medical science knowledge with advanced research and practical experience.

You’ll specialise in areas such as neuroscience, immunology, molecular medicine, or microbiology, and complete a one-year independent research project, developing skills for careers in research, diagnostics, biotechnology, or further study.

In your first year, you'll study core topics in biology, chemistry, physiology and skills for medical scientists, along with your choice of two option topics to focus on an area that interests you.

In your second year, you’ll deepen your understanding of molecular and biological sciences through core topics in human physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. You’ll also start exploring specialised areas that match your interests and future career goals.

Students can choose one of two study paths:

  • Option 1: A 36-unit Major, an 18-unit Medical Science Minor, and 18 units of elective topics.
  • Option 2: A 36-unit Major, an 18-unit Medical Science Minor, and another 18-unit Minor.

Your third year focuses on advanced study within your chosen major, with opportunities to specialise further through option topics such as neuroscience, immunology, virology, or infectious diseases. You’ll strengthen your practical and research skills in preparation for the Honours year.
