Practical experience
Although primarily delivered online, this course provides the practical, hands-on experiences through short on-campus intensive classes in our simulation facilities and clinical placements. We ensure you have the skills to provide the highest quality care and meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Registered nurse standards for practice.
These components are compulsory to the program, so you will need to attend at our City or Bedford Park campus and various clinical venues.

The program requires three years of full-time study or the equivalent part-time.
No, this course is not available to international students.
Yes, although primarily delivered online, this course includes compulsory on campus intensive that will be conducted at our City or Bedford Park Campus and clinical placement at various clinical venues, noting guarantee of placements in South Australia.
Over the course of the three-year degree, a student will attend 5 x intensive weeks. Each intensive is made up of 4 days, each 6-hours long and occur prior to placement.
Placements are based on 40 hours per week.
Nursing requires genuine, hands-on learning, so we have strong safeguards to ensure your education is authentic and practical. These include:
While some opportunities may be available, placement availability outside of South Australia cannot be guaranteed. Students should expect to complete their professional placements within South Australia.
Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency as specified by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's (NMBA) English language skills registration standard.

Flinders Online courses are available for Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas and Pacific Engagement visa holders.
International students in Australia who hold a student visa are not eligible to apply.
For further information regarding course eligibility, refer to the individual entry requirements for each course.
You are encouraged to apply as soon as possible and by no later than teaching commencement dates. If places fill, applications for your preferred start date may close without notice and you will be considered for the next available intake.

In 2026 the course only has Year 1 topics available (with remaining topics to be introduced in 2027 [Year 2] and 2028 [Year 3]) and therefore opportunities for credit transfer will be limited.

Before commencing study to become a registered nurse, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) requires you to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency.
