Can I transfer to Bachelor of Nursing Online after starting nursing at Flinders?

Yes. If you’re currently studying nursing at Flinders and find that online study would better suit your lifestyle, you can apply to transfer into the Bachelor of Nursing Online through the internal transfer process.

If you’ve successfully completed relevant first-year nursing topics, these may be credited towards your online degree, helping you continue your studies without starting over.

I’m studying nursing at another university - can I transfer to Flinders Nursing Online?

Yes. Students who have completed first-year nursing studies at another Australian university are welcome to apply.

You’ll submit a standard direct application to Flinders, and any eligible completed topics will be assessed for credit transfer so you can continue your degree with minimal disruption.

Will I receive credit for the nursing topics I’ve already completed?

In most cases, yes. Nursing topics you’ve successfully completed – either at Flinders or another recognised institution – will be assessed for credit transfer in line with the University’s Credit Policy.

This means you may not need to repeat equivalent first-year topics and can progress through your degree sooner.

Can I enter straight into second year of Nursing Online?

If you’ve completed the equivalent of first-year nursing studies (or hold a relevant Diploma of Nursing), you may be eligible for entry into second year of the Bachelor of Nursing Online.

Availability of second-year topics and credit will depend on your previous study and the year you commence, so we recommend speaking with Flinders Connect for personalised advice.

What is the duration of the Bachelor of Nursing online program?

The program requires three years of full-time study or the equivalent part-time.

When are the intensives and what’s their duration?

Over the course of the three-year degree, a student will attend 5 x intensive weeks. Each intensive is made up of 4 days, each 6-hours long and occur prior to placement.

When are the placements and how long are they?

1st year: 2-week placement scheduled between Sept and Nov
2nd year: 2 x 4-week placements. One in semester 1, one in semester 2
3rd year: 2 x 7-week placements. One in semester 1, one in semester 2

Placements are based on 40 hours per week.

While some opportunities may be available, placement availability outside of South Australia cannot be guaranteed. Students should expect to complete their professional placements within South Australia.

Who is eligible to apply?

Flinders Online courses are available for Australian or New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent residents, holders of Australian permanent humanitarian visas and Pacific Engagement visa holders.

International students in Australia who hold a student visa are not eligible to apply.

For further information regarding course eligibility, refer to the individual entry requirements for each course.

How do I apply?

Applications are submitted directly with Flinders.

You can apply for up to three courses in order of preference in your application. More information is available in the Application Guide.

Are HELP Loans available?

Yes, government-supported HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP loan area available to help eligible students pay for their higher education tuition fees.

HECS-HELP is for students enrolled in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) to cover their student contribution amount.
FEE-HELP is for eligible domestic fee-paying students to cover their full tuition fees.

Both loans are indexed to reflect changes in the cost of living but are otherwise interest free. HELP Loans must be repaid through the tax system once your income reaches a certain threshold, with payments increasing as your earnings rise.

Applications will close no earlier than Tuesday 1 December, after this date they may close without notice. You are encouraged to apply without delay.

Offer rounds are likely to be issued in December and January, and will continue after this time until the quota is filled. Early offers may be issued to high achieving applicants.

Applicants who have applied on time will be required to have all documentation, pending or missing grades finalised no later than 31 December 2026 to be guaranteed equal consideration. Applicants can upload documents to their application or email to askflinders@flinders.edu.au prior to the deadline.

English language proficiency

Before commencing study to become a registered nurse, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) requires you to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency.

To do this, you must satisfy one of the following:

Declare English is your primary language and before the course start date, you will have satisfactorily completed at least six years of schooling in English in a recognised country as indicated in the English language skills registration standard of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). At least two of the six years must be at a secondary school level, OR
Undertake an approved English language proficiency test no more than one year before the course start date and achieve specified minimum test results as indicated in the English language skills registration standard of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Example: minimum of Academic IELTS 7.0 overall, 7.0 in Speaking, Reading and Listening and 6.5 in Writing. Acceptable tests are: Academic IELTS, Cambridge, OET (Nursing), PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, OR
Declare you hold current registration as an enrolled nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency – Nursing and Midwifery (AHPRA).

When you graduate and apply for registration as a registered nurse in Australia, you will also need to meet the English language skills registration standard of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
