Surgical instruments and accessories

FBE, Flinders Biomedical Engineering, have developed devices for the Flinders University School of Medicine to enable research with specialist instruments such as stereotaxic devices and retractor sets.

Devices developed by Biomedical Engineering

Stereotaxic instrument

Stereotaxy is a method used in neurosurgery and neurological research for locating points within the brain using an external, three-dimensional frame of reference usually based on the Cartesion coordinate system. The instrument allows for extremely fine and precise movement with no vibration.

Sterilising basket

Baskets are made for specific instruments that do not fit the standard baskets.

Retractor sets

Retractors and frames have been developed for abdominal surgery.
