Judgement is a necessary part of assessing students but judgement is subject to bias. Biases are not prejudices; instead they are misrepresentations in the assessor’s mind of what occurred. They are hard-wired and cannot be ‘trained-out’ but assessors can become aware of biases and so enact strategies to manage any potential impact on assessment. This website provides a suite of resources that develop assessor expertise through awareness, recognition and management of biases. Read more about the project.
