Designed with industry input, the Master of Clinical Epidemiology prepares health professionals to generate and apply high-quality evidence in clinical settings. You’ll learn to design and evaluate clinical trials, critically interpret data, and communicate findings that inform better health outcomes. Flexible study options, expert teaching, and alignment with national standards ensure you graduate ready to contribute to world-class research and clinical excellence.

Your career in clinical epidemiology

Graduates of the Master of Clinical Epidemiology gain advanced expertise in epidemiology, biostatistics and clinical trial design, preparing them for roles that drive evidence-based healthcare, improve patient outcomes, and shape research across health settings.

Salary

$115K

typical salary in Australia

*Salary figures are averages drawn from sources including Seek, Glassdoor and Indeed. They may vary based on factors such as location, experience and employer.

Clinical Epidemiologist

As a Clinical Epidemiologist you’ll monitor, analyse and interpret health data to understand disease trends and guide health policy. Tasks often include designing studies and surveillance systems, modelling population risk, evaluating interventions, communicating findings to clinicians, policymakers, or public health teams, and sometimes responding to outbreaks.

This role may be based in government health departments, research agencies, hospitals or universities.

Clinical Research Officer

Support and manage clinical trials: developing protocols, ensuring compliance with ethics and regulatory standards, coordinating trial operations (participant recruitment, study site monitoring, data collection), analysing trial outcomes, collaborating with clinicians or sponsors. Employers may include hospitals, contract research organisations (CROs), pharmaceutical companies, or academic medical research institutes.

Research Assistant

Works under the guidance of more senior staff to conduct literature reviews, manage data (entry, cleaning, preparation), assist in designing/protocols, compile reports, help produce manuscripts, and support ethics submissions. These roles help build core research skills and often serve as stepping-stones into higher research or clinical research roles.

Other career opportunities might include:

  • Epidemiologist
  • Research fellow
