Terms of use

The following terms of use apply to the use of the artificial intelligence chatbot, Flinders Chatbot (also “the Chatbot”) provided by Flinders University (also “We”) within its website.

Please read these terms of use carefully before engaging with the Chatbot. By accessing and using the Chatbot, you acknowledge and agree to these terms of use.

General Information.

The Flinders Chatbot is an automated system developed by Flinders in collaboration with Insight Factory. It is designed to provided AI generated responses to users’ questions, being prospective students of Flinders related to studying and research at Flinders, general information relating to Flinders and its campuses, and to provide prospective students with information and assistance. The Chatbot has been primarily developed to assist prospective students and therefore while current students may also use the Chatbot to the extent it is able to assist, we encourage current students to seek further information from the Students.flinders.edu.au website or to contact askflinders@flinders.edu.au where the Chatbot is unable to provide detailed information.

The Chatbot provides AI generated responses based upon information contained in publicly available webpages from the Flinders website. Whilst the Chatbot strives to provide accurate and helpful information, We cannot guarantee that responses will be complete, accurate or up to date. The Chatbot may at times, provide information that is inaccurate or incomplete. Accordingly, we recommend that you use the responses as a starting point only, and that you verify the information provided by contacting Flinders directly here before taking any action or making any decisions.

Liability

Flinders expressly reserves the right to modify, add or delete individual or all Flinders Chatbot functionalities without notice, or to discontinue the Chatbot temporarily or permanently. Flinders provides no guarantee for the uninterrupted accessibility of the Chatbot and is not obliged to make the Chatbot available for a certain period of time.

Users of the Chatbot are solely responsible for their interactions and reliance on the information provided. Flinders and its officers, employees and representatives are not liable for any errors or omissions in the information provided by the Chatbot or for any actions taken or not taken in reliance upon it, or for any losses, damages or costs resulting from the use of the Chatbot.

Terms of Use

By using the Chatbot, the user agrees acknowledges that they are at least 18 years of age. If you are under 18 years of age (or the age of legal majority where you live), you may use the Chatbot only under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to be bound by these Terms.

By using the Chatbot, the user must not:

• post, send or share defamatory, offensive, intimidating, illegal, racist, discriminatory, obscene or inappropriate content in any form through the Chatbot
• post, send, share or input into the Chatbot any sexually explicit material, self-harm-material, high impact violence material and violence instruction material;
• use the Chatbot to conduct illegal or immoral activities;
• attempt to compromise the security of the Chatbot or Flinders’ systems, or access confidential information related to the Chatbot, or reverse engineer the Chatbot or Flinders’ systems; and
• copy, distribute, modify, reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to extract the source code of the Chatbot or any part that composes it, without Flinders’ written consent.

Data Privacy and Security

Our server logs may automatically log some or all of the information from a user’s use of the Chatbot in accordance with our Privacy statement which is available here.

Logs of conversations with the Chatbot may also be stored on a user anonymised basis to allow Flinders to improve results.

Do not share any sensitive or personal information in your conversations with the Chatbot.
