Congratulations to Dr Sharon Lawn of FHBHRU (Course Coordinator Graduate Program in Chronic Condition Management & Self-Management) who was awarded the ‘Exceptional Contribution by an Individual’ Award at the MHS Conference (TheMHS) held in Melbourne recently.

The award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to mental health service delivery and acknowledges a remarkable accomplishment in the unfolding story of Mental Health Service delivery in Australia and New Zealand.

She was presented with her award by Senator Brett Mason Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Ageing.  The Award was in recognition of Sharon’s 22 years of service to the mental health sector and to people with mental health issues. In particular, it recognised Sharon’s innovation, leadership and commitment in the development of consumer participation generally and the development of paid consumer roles within the mental health sector in South Australia. It also recognised her expertise, leadership, and contribution (at state, national and international level) to the area of smoking and mental health research and the impact of this on the field and implementation of policies and practice to help address this issue.
