Episode 3: DIGITAL HEALTH AND TECHNOLOGY

Can digital technologies cure our sick
and ailing health system?

Episode 3 of Fearless Conversations, Digital Health and Technology, brings together a panel of experts to tackle the big issues in health including innovation, ethics and patient safety.

The Advertiser senior journalist Brad Crouch is joined by Flinders University Professor of Digital Health Systems Trish Williams, orthopaedic surgeon and Flinders alumnus Dr Matthew Liptak, former global managing director for IBM Health Dr Terry Sweeney, and CareApp founder and CEO Allison Nikula.

The panel explores the roles that different digital technologies can play in solving health problems whilst creating an industry out of digital health. Is it possible to use technology to not only improve patient care but to make it easier for individuals to interact with the healthcare system?

Fearless Conversations Episode 3: Digital Health and Technology discusses how digital technology could help create solutions for our stressed health system.

Allison Nikula is the effervescent Founder of nationally awarded and internationally recognised application, CareApp.

CareApp is a powerful communication and engagement platform for aged care providers. It brings providers, residents, carers and families together to build a wonderful care community and support seniors to love the way they live. An Occupational Therapist with rare experience in both clinical healthcare and technology, Allison bridges the gap with flair and vitality.

Allison was inspired to create CareApp when her own Grandparents needed a little extra support. Allison's family wanted to be active contributors to their care, but communication was fragmented and visibility about their care and wellbeing was poor. At the same time, Allison was leading a team of over 440 community care workers and saw that her personal experience was not unique.

CareApp was the Winner for Best Workforce Efficiency or Quality Improvement in Aged Care as well as Joint Overall Winner at the 2018 National Information Technology in Aged Care Awards. In 2019 CareApp was named as a Finalist for Technology Innovation of the Year at the Asia Pacific Eldercare Awards.

Allison was the Winner for the Emerging Innovator at the 2018 Women in Innovation Awards, 2019 Australian Top 50 Small Business Leader and 2021 40 under 40 and named the OTR Inspiring Disruptor.
