Adult hearing assessment
A standard appointment involves a conversation about your hearing concerns, followed by a hearing test using headphones where you respond to sounds. We may also check your ear health and middle ear function. Your results will be explained, and we will talk through what they mean for you, along with advice and discussion of management options if required.
Paediatric hearing assessment
Hearing assessments for children from 1 year of age, conducted by at least two clinicians using age-appropriate techniques, which may include play-based activities. Ear health may also be checked if required. Results and recommendations are discussed with a parent or caregiver.
Employment-related hearing assessment
This appointment assesses your hearing in relation to workplace requirements, including roles in noisy environments. It may include hearing testing and checks of ear health where needed. We will explain your results clearly and provide a report if required, so you understand how your hearing relates to your work.
This service may include assessment for noise-induced hearing loss, Work Cover-related testing, pre-employment screening, and ongoing monitoring for occupational hearing needs.
Hearing rehabilitation and support
We focus on understanding your hearing needs by asking thoughtful questions and listening to what matters most to you. Hearing aids are not always the only or best solution, so we ensure you are informed about all available options, including hearing aids, assistive listening technologies, and non-device-based management strategies, so you can make decisions that suit your lifestyle and goals.
We are a university-owned clinic with access to a wide range of hearing aid manufacturers and technologies. This includes assistive listening devices such as remote microphone systems, TV listening devices, personal amplifiers, wireless headphones for television or phone use, and hearing glasses. Assistive listening technology may also support children and adults with auditory processing difficulties in challenging listening environments. We provide independent advice to help you find solutions that suit your needs and budget.
Auditory processing assessment
An assessment that evaluates how well a person processes and interprets the information they hear. It examines listening skills such as understanding speech in noise, distinguishing sounds, and following spoken instructions, particularly when hearing is otherwise normal. Results help identify specific listening difficulties and guide targeted strategies and support.
Ear wax management
Ear wax is a natural substance that helps protect the ear canal, but build-up can cause blocked ears, reduced hearing, tinnitus, discomfort, or difficulty with hearing aids. Wax build-up may also be more common with hearing aid, earphone, or earplug use. Wax is removed by an experienced audiologist using direct visual techniques. Microsuction uses gentle suction rather than water and is suitable for most adults. Manual removal uses specialised instruments to carefully clear the ear canal.
Personalised hearing protection
Repeated or ongoing exposure to loud sounds in work, leisure, or daily environments can affect your hearing. This service provides assessment and fitting of custom hearing protection tailored to your specific needs.
This may be suitable for people working or engaging in environments such as music performance or production, aviation, military service, swimming, shooting sports, heavy equipment operation, or construction and fabrication. We also provide options for sleep protection and devices for people sensitive to noise.
