Jacquie researches men's and boys' health service use, help-seeking, and value destruction (how service value can be diminished or undermined in service interactions). She has a multidisciplinary perspective when examining questions of public health, public policy, and social equity, drawing on fields including men's health and masculinities; services marketing, social marketing and transformative services research; and the social determinants of health.
Jacquie's PhD quantitatively investigated the role of masculine norms, customer experiences of vulnerability, and value destruction when men use transformative preventative health services. Her Master’s research qualitatively investigated older men's help-seeking behaviours in the context of bowel cancer screening, identifying the role of different masculine identities, self-conscious emotions, and value destruction for healthy men’s help-seeking.
Following her PhD, Jacquie held a Postdoctoral Research Fellow then Research Fellow position at the University of Queensland's Institute for Social Science Research. There she led the Policy and Strategy Review of the Gap Analysis of Evidence for Male Health in Australia (a review of men's health data, policies and strategies, and interventions in Australia commissioned by the Australian Government), and project managed the study across multiple work package teams and stakeholder consultation activities. She has also contributed to applied research across health, education, and social policy with government and sector partners.
Before pursuing academic research, Jacquie was a social marketer within Queensland Government and built a substantial portfolio in public sector social marketing strategy development, delivery, and project management, including leading award-winning and impactful campaigns for bowel cancer screening, smoking cessation, and vaccination.
