Prof Dinning is a Principal Medical Scientist in the department of Surgery and Gastroenterology at Flinders Medical Centre. Prior to this he held the position of senior research fellow in the Department of Human Physiology at Flinders University (2011-2013) and in the School of Medicine, University of New South Wales (2009-2011). He has research interests in gut disorders and the mechanisms that control gastrointestinal function. Collectively, he has published over 170 original peer reviewed papers, invited reviews and book chapters on Gastrointestinal Motility.

Winner 2011 - Eureka Prize "Innovative Use of Technology"; Australian Museum. (Awarded in recognition of the development and clinical use of the fibre-optic high-resolution catheter)

Winner 2014 - NSW Engineering excellence award (The Bradfield Award)
