Shanti Omodei-James

Research Officer

College of Medicine and Public Health

Shanti Omodei-James is a Research Officer within the Discipline of Trauma and Injury in the College of Medicine and Public Health with a passion for advancing health equity by co-designing solutions to complex public health challenges affecting priority populations. Shanti brings experience across the public health, international relations and community sectors, having worked closely with individuals on the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and women experiencing homelessness. These experiences have shaped her commitment to transformative research and program design that centres the lived experience of end users. 

Shanti's contributions centre on the management of the Nra:gi Ya:yun (very good food) project, a co-designed metabolic initiative with Aboriginal people living on Ngarrindjeri Ruwe. Her skills and expertise have further supported the SMART-PH project and Out-of-Pocket Health Care Expenditure (OOPHE) study. 

Shanti possesses a strong foundation in qualitative research, emphasising accountability, trust, and reciprocity. Her strong analytical skills have supported thematic analysis for projects involving Aboriginal women in the Far West of South Australia and survivors of road traffic injury and those with a traumatic brain injury.
