RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN (RAP) STATEMENT

In our research we will demonstrate ethical research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to develop a culture of mutual trust, respect and reciprocity through the following:

• Improve the ways in which all FHMRI researchers work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. This includes a commitment to identifying and communicating their own standpoint including their biases, attitudes and assumptions, which impacts on all of the parts of the research process
• Strengthen the research capabilities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples including staff, students and Communities
• Incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives and knowledges (knowing, being and doing) into FHMRI research processes
• Enhance the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples as researchers, research partners, collaborators and participants in research
• Ensure that FHMRI policies, practices, procedures and templates respect the sovereignty of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and reflect their rights and interests.
• Build respectful reciprocal relationships of trust with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academics, organisations, communities and peoples.
• Execute our research utilising the NHMRC best practices and AIATSIS code of ethics for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research.
