This bust of the renowned Greek philosopher Aristotle (384–322 BC) was commissioned by Sotirios Phillis, President of the Halkidikeon Society of SA Aristotle Inc., and generously donated by the Prefect of Halkidiki, Asterios Zograffos.
It was officially unveiled on 11 November 2012 by the Honourable Jay Weatherill MP, Premier of South Australia.
Professor Michael Tsianikas, Director of the LOGOS Centre and Professor of Modern Greek, noted that the occasion also celebrated the formation of the new Aristotelian Society at Flinders University—a forum for the local Greek community to honour Aristotle’s enduring legacy and actively engage with his ideas through ongoing dialogue and debate.
“A student of Plato and teacher of Alexander the Great, Aristotle is one of the most influential founding figures of Western philosophy,” Professor Tsianikas said.
