Within was commissioned by Flinders University in 2019 as part of the Sturt precinct revitalisation at the Bedford Park campus. The mural’s fragmented, radiating lines create a sense of vibration and depth along the face of the Sturt North building. These features—along with hand-drawn lettering and a monochrome palette—are hallmarks of internationally recognised street artist Georgia Hill’s work.
Hill developed the concept through mentoring sessions with Flinders student Kirrily Snape, making the artwork a personal and collaborative project. Like many of Hill’s murals, Within reveals texture and detail up close, while its full message— “WITH IN”—becomes visible only from a distance. The design reflects the idea that achievement comes from within, from personal drive and motivation. This message is echoed in the ripple-like curved lines, which expand outward from the text.
Qualities such as drive, direction and excitement for the future, which Hill also saw in Snape, are celebrated in Within. The work offers an uplifting message for the university community, encouraging reflection on growth, change and personal potential.
