Alison is a Social Gerontologist with 25 years experience in the aged care sector, within community and residential aged care, before coming to Flinders University. This time working with the elders in our society, showed her, that when you get environments, physical and social, that work for peole living with dementia, they work for almost everyone else also. During this time she worked with elders including carers, and people living with dementia, different levels of government and local organisations to develop respite houses and day programs and build some 'bridges ' between community and residential aged care, as well as between people living with dementia and the broader community.

Alison has completed a Masters by Research trialing an observational tool which focused on the perspective of people with advanced dementia in residential aged care. The findings support the value of aged care practitioners using the tool to enhance their insight and understanding of non-verbal communication efforts by people with advanced dementia.
