Dirk Van Rooy is a researcher with over 20 years of experience across academia and consulting in Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. His work focuses on how behavioral science and emerging technologies can be combined to improve decision-making, sustainability and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.

His research spans behavioral design, responsible AI, and human–computer interaction, with a particular interest in how systems can be designed to support better human judgement in complex and uncertain environments. He also works on circular economy and sustainability, using behavioral insights to inform more effective products, services and policy interventions.

Dirk contributes to research and education in behavioral science, human–machine interaction, and human-centered design, with applications across industry, government, and defence. 

Dirk is a member of the Autonomous Systems Community of Interest (ASCI), an expert network supported by the European Defence Agency, and remains affiliated with the Antwerp Centre for Responsible AI (ACRAI).
