Eng Ooi is the Head of the Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Unit at Flinders Medical Centre and Professor at Flinders University. He is the director of the Flinders Rhinology Fellowship program and Chair of the Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team at Flinders Medical Centre
Professor Ooi is a surgeon scientist who completed surgical training in South Australia with an FRACS and a PhD for his thesis on innate immunity pathogenesis in chronic rhinosinusitis. He undertook an advanced Rhinology, Skull Base, Head and Neck Oncology fellowship in Toronto with Professor Ian Witterick in 2009-10. His clinical practice covers Rhinology, Skull Base, Head and Neck Oncology and Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) surgery.
He leads the Flinders ENT research program group collaborating with multiple specialties, and scientists. He currently has over a 100 journal publications, 2 book chapters, and received $2.6 million in grants as chief or associate investigator. He currently is an editorial board member for 4 scientific journals and invited peer reviewer for 8 journals. He supervises PhD, Masters of Surgery and Honours students.
Professor Ooi is actively involved in surgical training at Flinders Medical Centre and invited faculty for Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Head and Neck Surgical Dissecting and Adelaide Tracheostomy courses.

I have a strong interest in research, surgical education, training and improving the quality of teaching for medical students and doctors training to be surgeons, and mentoring people interested in a career in surgery and research. My other area of interest is raising community awareness about head and neck cancer.
