Dr Grant Pearse is a Senior Lecturer in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Flinders University. His research focuses on the intersection of remote sensing technologies and artificial intelligence, developing innovative solutions primarily for managed forestry systems. His work spans multiple remote sensing topics including LiDAR, multispectral and hyperspectral imaging, UAV systems, and satellite data, with significant contributions to advancing automated analysis techniques using machine learning and cloud computing platforms. He led the development of a national forest monitoring system for New Zealand, a pioneering initiative that combined artificial intelligence, cloud computing infrastructure, and national LiDAR datasets to enable automated regional-scale forest inventory and health monitoring. Current research interests include 3D deep learning, synthetic data generation, multi-sensor EO data integration, and cloud-native geospatial workflows.
