Helen Carmichael is a Research Associate in Digital Health within the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. Her current research contributes to the development of a Health Equity Adjustment Score (HEAS) framework, supporting efforts to better understand and address inequities in healthcare access, utilisation and outcomes. Working with health services and academic collaborators, she undertakes evidence synthesis, framework development and knowledge translation to support the integration of equity considerations into healthcare planning, service delivery and decision-making.
Helen has a multidisciplinary background spanning public health, primary healthcare, aged care, community development, consumer and stakeholder engagement, service commissioning, contract management, governance and program evaluation. She has worked across government, health and community sectors applying research, evaluation and stakeholder engagement approaches to support service improvement, policy development and system reform. Her interests include health equity, health services research, evidence synthesis, implementation and the translation of research into practice.
Helen completed a Master of Public Health at Flinders University, where her research focused on mapping arts and health practices across multidisciplinary settings through the development of a classification and survey framework. While maintaining a keen interest in arts and health, her broader research interests include health equity, digital health, health services research, evidence synthesis, implementation and evaluation, knowledge translation, and the role of innovative and interdisciplinary approaches and access within health systems. Her research explores how evidence, systems and decision-making processes can be leveraged to improve equitable access to healthcare, healthcare options, health outcomes and community wellbeing.
