Dr Helen Harrison

I have had the privilege of building my career at the intersection of physiology, education and student success. I hold a PhD in Comparative Physiology from the University of Adelaide and, since joining Flinders University in 2019, I have held a variety of teaching and academic leadership roles across the College of Medicine and Public Health. I also hold a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from Flinders University, which has further shaped my commitment to evidence-informed teaching practice and educational innovation.

My career has focused on teaching physiology and medical sciences, curriculum development, educational scholarship, and student success. I have coordinated large foundational topics, led curriculum renewal initiatives, and contributed to university-wide projects that support student engagement, belonging, wellbeing, and academic achievement.

I am passionate about teaching and supporting student success across the university experience. My work focuses on creating engaging, inclusive and evidence-informed learning environments that promote belonging, wellbeing and academic achievement. I aim to empower students to become confident, self-directed learners and future professionals.

My educational scholarship explores feedback literacy, self-regulated learning, metacognition and student engagement, with a particular interest in helping students develop the skills required for lifelong learning. I enjoy collaborating with colleagues to advance teaching and learning in the medical and health sciences and to create educational experiences that support diverse student cohorts to thrive.
