Jessica is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the College of Business, Government and Law. Jessica is an expert in international conflict and provides regular analysis for national and international media outlets on global conflicts. Jessica's research interests include conflict, threat perceptions, and post-conflict institution-building with a focus on the Middle East as well as Russia / Ukraine.

Jessica also focuses on executive training with an emphasis on cultural capability and intercultural leadership. Jessica engages in innovative curriculum design at the tertiary level, with a particular interest in participatory educational methods to develop graduates' professional and interpersonal competencies including cultural capability, leadership, conflict management and negotiation skills.

Jessica is academic lead on a microcredential for the Australian Public Sector on Australia's engagement in the Pacific region. The course focuses on how Australia can build long-term, sustainable relationships in the Pacific through culturally responsible engagement 

Jessica is academic lead on the Next Execs leadership program for SA public sector co-designed with the Office of Commissioner for Public Sector Employment

MEDIA ENGAGEMENT

I am a regular commentator for Australian and international news media outlets on international conflict and global affairs with a focus on Ukraine, the Middle East, the US and Australian foreign policy. I contribute regularly to ABC; SBS; Nine News; 7 News; Canberra Times; The Australian; Sky News Australia. Internationally, I comment regularly for Channel News Asia and have also provided analysis for Bloomberg; news.com; the Guardian.

PODCAST

Jessica hosted a podcast "War in Ukraine: Update from Kyiv" throughout 2022 and 2023 with analysis of the Ukraine conflict, as well as deep dives into issues of warfighting, strategy and leadership. The podcast includes over 140 interviews with military personell, diplomats and academics.  

Qualifications

Doctorate from the School of Politics and International Relations, Australian National University - graduated 2018

Masters degree in Political Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem - graduated 2011

Bachelor of Asian Studies from the Australian National University - graduated 2006 (majoring in development studies; Vietnamese language; Arabic language)

Honours, awards and grants

Vice President and Executive Dean's Teaching and Learning Innovation Award, 2022. Using artificial intelligence (AI) to optimize the production of digital media to enhance student learning.
