Associate Professor in Nuclear Engineering
College of Science and Engineering
Jordan Wain BSc(Hons) PGCHE MSc MPhil (Cantab) CSci CRadP CEng FNucI is an Associate Professor of Nuclear Engineering within the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. He is an accomplished nuclear professional with deep expertise in radiation protection and nuclear emergency response. Holding three degrees, in Chemistry, the Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors, and Nuclear Energy, Jordan is a Chartered Scientist, a Chartered Radiation Protection Professional, a Chartered Engineer, and a Fellow of The Nuclear Institute.
In 2024, Jordan authored 'Ionising Radiation Protection: A Primer', a scientific textbook published by Springer Nature, written specifically for those wishing to understand the subject up to Masters degree level.
In 2026, Jordan was granted his first patent for a Fire Safe Radioactive Source Container (GB2702307); an invention that mitigates the risk of a high temperature environment to small radioactive sources.
Jordan's previous experience includes managing the reprocessing of used nuclear fuel at Sellafield Ltd, as a Captain within the British Army, and over half a decade as the senior lecturer in Nuclear Emergency Response within the UK government's Nuclear Department. In this role he lectured up to Masters degree level, trained emergency services and the military on nuclear emergency response, and lectured in Australia as part of a UK-Australia AUKUS initiative.
Jordan is currently focused on creating some of the modules that form part of the new Nuclear Science and Technology Masters Degree.
When not pursuing post-nominals, Jordan is an avid adventure activity enthusiast and enjoys making the most of the outdoors, during his weekends he is currently driving a highly-modified and extremely secondhand 4x4 as far as he dares into the Australian outback.
