Kate Hepburn-Brown

Kate Hepburn-Brown is an experienced Registered Nurse and Midwife, health service leader and Adjunct Associate Professor at Flinders University, a status she has held since 2026. She is Director of Clinical Services at Your Nursing Agency (YNA), providing national clinical leadership across nursing, midwifery, disability, aged care and community services. Her career encompasses autonomous midwifery practice in New Zealand, nursing and midwifery education, clinical governance, workforce development and complex community care. Kate has a longstanding relationship with Flinders University through teaching, course quality activities, collaborative research and the development and evaluation of the RESET-M program supporting midwives returning to clinical practice.
Kate holds a Master of Health Administration from Flinders University (2023), a Bachelor of Health Science (Midwifery) from Auckland University of Technology (2005), a Bachelor of Nursing from the University of South Australia (2003), and a Certificate IV in Assessment and Training (2012). She is also a Fellow of the Australian College of Midwives (FACM), a member of the Australian College of Nursing (MACN) and part of their executive faculty and a member of the South Australian branch of the National Council of Women. Kate holds Adjunct Associate Professor status with Flinders University.
Kate was awarded Fellowship of the Australian College of Midwives in recognition of her contribution to midwifery and the communities served by the profession. She has also received a Certificate of Excellence for outstanding performance in Health Informatics. In 2026, Kate was appointed Adjunct Associate Professor at Flinders University, recognising her contribution to clinical leadership, education, workforce development and university–industry collaboration. In July 2026, she became Chair of the South Australian Branch of the Australian College of Midwives, following extensive service in branch executive roles including Membership Coordinator, Treasurer and Deputy Chair.
As Director of Clinical Services at YNA, Kate provides national leadership in clinical governance, quality and safety, evidence-based practice, incident management, workforce capability and the clinical oversight of nursing, midwifery and community care services. As an Adjunct Associate Professor at Flinders University, she contributes industry and clinical expertise to education, research, workforce initiatives and professional engagement. Her work with Flinders has included the collaborative development, delivery and evaluation of RESET-M, guest teaching in midwifery, workforce-focused research and participation in course quality activities for Bachelor of Midwifery pathways. As Chair of the SA Branch of the Australian College of Midwives, Kate also contributes to professional leadership, advocacy and engagement for midwives across South Australia.
Kate's professional and community interests include midwifery and nursing workforce development, clinical governance, quality and safety, women's health, professional practice, education, workforce recruitment and retention, re-entry to clinical practice and interdisciplinary collaboration. She has contributed extensively to the Australian College of Midwives at state and national levels and is a member of the Executive Faculty of the Australian College of Nursing and the South Australian Branch of the National Council of Women. Through her Adjunct Associate Professor role, clinical leadership and professional activities, Kate has a particular interest in strengthening partnerships between universities, health services and professional organisations to support education, research, workforce sustainability and high-quality care for women, families and communities.
