Ms Marian McAllister

As an Accredited Practicing Dietitian Marian brings extensive professional and teaching experience to the Nutrition and Dietetics team in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Leadership roles include Placement Education Coordinator for the Nutrition and Dietetics courses as well as facilitation, in collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander collegues, of the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curriculum and the Nutrition and Dietetics courses.

Teaching is focused on health promotion practice including all facets of project management, sociocultural and environmental determinants of food choices and working collaboratively with organisations and communities. As a teaching specialist Marian's professional expertise stems from over 25 years of work in the area of Community and Public Health as a Nutritionist-Dietitian. This included Managing prevention initiatives across South Australia including community based childhood obesity prevention programs such as eat well be active Community Programs, a local OPAL community in the City of Charles Sturt and various Healthy Weight Initiatives in Southern Adelaide, based in Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN). More recently roles in the Department for Health and Wellbeing in the area of strategic partnerships and as part of the Public Health Nutrition team bring experience and understanding of contemporary public health practice.

Marian believes in the power of working in partnership with organisations and communities to address health inequities and improve population health outcomes. Her passion is in development of the next generation of health promotion and public health nutrition practitioners.
