Marina has recently joined the FHMRI Research Support and Development (RDS) team as a Research Support Officer. Before joining RDS, Marina was a postgraduate researcher at the University of Melbourne within the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity. During her PhD, she focussed on researching the molecular mechanisms used by pathogenic bacteria to obtain essential metal ions such as zinc. As a postgraduate researcher, Marina engaged heavily with the research community; organising events for postgraduate researchers as secretary of the Postgraduate Student Society for Infection and Immunity, and presenting her research at both local and international conferences. Marina especially takes pride in her presentation and science communication skills, which has lead her to receive numerous awards for her oral presentations and to be nominated as a Grand Finalist for the University of Melbourne Three Minute Thesis competition.
Returning to Adelaide in early 2022, Marina also gained industry experience working as an Analytical Scientist at Agilex Biolabs. In this position, Marina developed her analytical skills and gained a strong appreciation for GLP, GDP, and quality control.
