Key responsibilities

Dr Menberu is a research associate played an active role in coordinating an international clinical trial for cancer prevention and biomarker discovery for cancer detection within the Bowel Health Service at Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer. These includes screening of study participants, collection of clinical data and biospecimens including serum, plasma, faecal samples, tissue samples for individuals at risk for CRC. Also, she has been worked as a research assistant at the University of Adelaide and involved in the clinical sample collections for biobanking. These collections provide valuable resources for research to improve the understanding of disease states, and to improve clinical care and treatment options. Moreover, she has been actively involved in medical research, teaching, and community service activities over the last 15 years. This includes advising research projects and thesis preparation for postgraduate students and having roles as both internal and external examiners for undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Gondar.

Teaching interests

Dr Menberu was an assistant professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology (University of Gondar, Ethiopia), where she lectured undergraduate and postgraduate students in microbiology and immunology, as well as being a supervisor to undergraduate and higher degree students. More recently, Dr Menberu worked as an academic tutor at the University of Adelaide (since February 2020) and provided research placement workshops for the Health and Medical Sciences undergraduate students.
