Professor Martin Kumar is a Fisheries and Environmental Management Consultant, and Adjunct Professor, at the Flinders University of South Australia. On 1 July 2011, the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) appointed Prof Kumar as member of the 1st High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) steering committee on Food Security and Nutrition. He was the Leader and Principal Scientist of the Integrated Biosystems Program, Primary Industries and Resources, Government of South Australia until 30 June 2011. He was also one of the pioneers in introducing the “Integrated Farming and Water Re‐use” concept in Australia. He has over 30 years of experience in Fisheries and Aquaculture development in the Asia Pacific region as a researcher, teacher, manager, leader and consultant. He has taken part in completing over 30 major projects focusing on enhancing primary production and economic improvement, including projects supported by the World Bank, FAO, AusAID and ACIAR and has over 135 scientific publications. In 2009, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Government of Vietnam awarded him with the prestigious medal for outstanding contribution to aquaculture development towards food security and poverty reduction. Most recently (May 2010), he and his team received an intergovernmental award for outstanding project achievement presented by AusAID, Australian Government Agency and MARD, Government of Vietnam under Collaboration for Agricultural and Rural Development Program(CARD).
In April 2009, awarded prestigious medal by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Government of Vietnam, for outstanding contribution in the area of aquaculture development.
Received intergovernmental award. Awarded in December 2010, by a joint committee consisting of representatives from AusAID and Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Vietnam, for outstanding achievement for the project “Development of clam culture for improvement and diversification of livelihoods of the poor coastal communities in Central Vietnam” (027/05VIE) under Collaboration for Agricultural and Rural Development Program (CARD).
