Matteo Farina was born and educated in Milano (Italy), where he completed his undergraduate studies at Universita' Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Matteo has also completed a Master in Insegnamento della Lingua e Cultura Italiana a Stranieri (Master in Teaching) at Università Cà Foscari (Venice-Italy).
His research expertise lies in Applied Linguistics, Computer-Mediated Communication, Intelligence and Digital Technology. Currently, his research focuses on digital information opertions and national security. Matteo is chief investigator on "Breaking the code: a new model to understand conversational trajectories of influence", a project funded by The University of Adelaide. His approach is informed by Conversation Analysis (CA) and other qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
In 2021, Matteo was a co-investigator on "Understaning Mass Influence" a Defence funded project that examined information warfare techniques developed by state and non-state actors on social media platforms.
Dr Farina is also the author of "Facebook and Conversation Analysis" a best-selling book on the structure of Facebook interactions.
Before becoming an academic Matteo worked as a marketing specialist for several high profile clients. He realised promotional campaigns and events for Adidas AG, Yamaha Motor Company and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
