Professor Maziar Ramezani is a Full Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University. He also serves as the Additive Manufacturing Lead at Flinders Factory of the Future and holds the position of Honorary International Chair Professor of Manufacturing at National Taipei University of Technology (Taipei Tech), Taiwan.

Prior to joining Flinders University, Professor Ramezani worked at Auckland University of Technology (AUT), New Zealand, for over 12 years, where he founded and directed the Tribology and Surface Engineering Laboratory. In addition to his research and teaching activities, he held several leadership roles at AUT, including Program Leader for the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Program Leader for the Master of Engineering, Academic Lead for the Bachelor of Maritime Engineering, Director of Doctoral Studies, and Acting Associate Head of School (Research) for the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences. Before his time at AUT, he held academic and research positions at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Professor Ramezani’s expertise is in advanced manufacturing and materials engineering, with a particular focus on additive manufacturing across a range of materials, including metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites. His research interests span design for additive manufacturing, hybrid manufacturing processes, tribology and surface engineering, material deformation processes, and the development of biomedical devices and orthopaedic and dental implants. He is particularly interested in exploring how additive manufacturing can enable new design possibilities, improve material efficiency, and support sustainable manufacturing practices.

He has an established record of multidisciplinary collaboration, working closely with industry, government, and international research partners. He is passionate about translating research into practical applications and contributes actively to the advancement of manufacturing technologies that address current and emerging challenges. Professor Ramezani is also committed to the development of future engineers and researchers, supervising postgraduate students and engaging in research-led teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
