Melinda has a strong background in secondary education, having spent 16 years as a high school teacher in Adelaide and regional South Australia. She taught History, English and Science, and was faculty head at Temple Christian College for both History and the Research Project. Melinda completed her Master of Educational Leadership and Management degree through Flinders University and went on to do her PhD through Monash University, focussing on emotion and school leadership. She now works as a teaching specialist at Flinders University in the Innovative Education Futures (postgraduate) and ITE (initial teacher education) programmes. Melinda is passionate about the application of digital technologies to teaching and learning, and prioritizes sharing this knowledge with her peers though her leadership in the Digital Innovation Working Group in the College of Education, Psychology and Social work at Flinders University. She enjoys walking on the beach, good coffee and spending time with her family and friends (including a disdainful Siberian forest cat, Kinzie).
Transnational education is an area of interest, as I regularly travel to Tianjin in China to teach topics in the Master of Educational Leadership and Management degree (delivered as a partnership between Flinders University and Nankai University). I am interested in current developments in secondary English curriculum and pedagogy, and am passionate about the incorporation of digital technologies into my own teaching.
I am interested in digital innovations in higher education learning and teaching: in particular, the creation of high quality teaching videos. I co-chair the Digital Innovation Working Group in the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work at Flinders University, which aims to support academic staff in their use of ditigal technologies for teachign and learning. The intersection of AI and the teaching and learning space has brought about significant changes to education, and this is an area of ongoing interest and professional development.
