Dr Michael Lawless

Dr Michael Lawless is a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences with a background in psychology and health services research. His research focuses on healthy ageing, chronic condition management, frailty, and multimorbidity across primary care, community, and residential aged care settings. He has a particular interest in strengthening self-care and self-management support for older adults and translating evidence into improvements in policy, services, and practice.

Dr Lawless collaborates with researchers across diverse disciplines, health and aged care professionals, community organisations, industry partners, and creative teams to co-design, implement, and evaluate evidence-informed tools, resources, and interventions. His work draws on integrated knowledge translation, implementation science, qualitative research, and participatory co-design approaches, including creative and arts-based methods of research translation.

Dr Lawless has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, co-edited the 2026 book Navigating Knowledge Translation in Health and Care, and developed creative research-translation outputs, including educational and narrative-based videos and infographics. He welcomes opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research, applied evaluations, co-designed interventions, and initiatives that connect research evidence with the needs of communities, practitioners, services, and policymakers.
