Matt brings extensive experience into his teaching from various appointments including Patient Safety, Quality, and Risk Consultant Northern Adelaide Health Network (NALHN), Patient Safety and Quality Unit South Australian Department of Health,  Project Risk Manager for the New Women's and Children's Hospital Project, Project Risk Manager for the New Royal Adelaide Hospital and Senior Program Manager Inspection Program, Patient Safety and Quality in the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist, Safety and Quality Unit.

Matt is a graduate of the Bachelor of Business University of South Australia, Master of Management University of South Australia and Master of Health Service Management Flinders University. Upon completion of his Flinders degree, he was awarded the Australasian College of Health Service Management, SA Branch, Health Management Prize for the best project thesis. Matt is an active Fellow of the Australasian College of Health Service Management (FACHSM) and certified Health Executive (CHE).

Further to his teaching at Flinders University, Matt volunteers to mentor Flinders University Master Students.

In 2024 Matt moved to the South Australian Department of Education to pursue his interest in youth Mental Health and is currently the Manager for Safety, Quality and Risk. In 2025 he led the nation first accreditation for the SMHS to be the first education-based service in Australia to undertake accreditation against the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality Standards. This is also one of the first organisations in the country to seek accreditation under this new framework.
