Tim is a Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics and an Accredited Practising Dietitian with a strong commitment to teaching and research. His research focuses on micronutrients, particularly during the first 1,000 days, the period from conception to a child’s second year of life. He has worked in over 13 countries in 5 continents including both low and high income countries.

His work has informed national and international policy, and he regularly contributes to expert advisory committees, including those convened by the NHMRC and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Teaching interests
Tim is committed to integrating research-led insights into teaching to enhance student learning and professional preparedness. His teaching focuses on nutritional biochemistry and physiology, with a strong emphasis on translating foundational science into clinical dietetic practice. Recognising that nutrition is a rapidly evolving discipline, he supports students in developing the skills needed to critically engage with research, enabling safe, confident, and contemporary practice. His approach fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a commitment to lifelong learning, alongside the ability to adapt as new evidence emerges.
