place Health Sciences (5E221.4)
GPO Box 2100, Adelaide 5001, South Australia

I have been fortunate to experience Flinders University across varied roles, initially in research as a PhD student and post-doctoral researcher in Clinical Pharmacology, followed by over a decade teaching in the MD Program as a PBL tutor and lecturer in biomedical sciences. I am the Teaching Program Director for Medical Sciences in my College (Medicine & Public Health) and the Coordinator of the Medical Science specialisation of Laboratory Medicine. I contribute to teaching through development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of innovative curricula across the programs.

One of my passions in teaching is active learning, particularly using innovative teaching techniques. I have introduced a cloud-based learning technology into medical science physiology topics which I am very excited about, and have published in physiology education about active learning and physiological core concepts.

I present at national at international conferences on educational design focusing on these innovative approaches to teaching. In 2021, I was honoured to be a recipient of an Australian Award for University Teaching (AAUT), with a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning, and am a contributor to the AAUT Network Mentor Scheme (https://aautn.org/mentors/dr-voula-gaganis/).

I am convenor of my college's Teaching Specialist Community of Practice which is an interdisciplinary community representing all disciplines across medicne and public health. We foster ongoing interactions between teaching specialist staff across the College with a focus on scholarship of teaching and learning, enabling and building relationships, collaborative activities, sharing knowledge of our practice including repertoire of resources, techniques, trouble-shooting, tools and experiences.
