Description
The purpose of the AJ & IM Naylon Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Scholarship is to enable a suitably qualified graduate to carry out, under the supervision of a member of staff appointed by the College, a program of study leading to a PhD relevant to agriculture and inland aquaculture, particularly in the areas of biodiversity and conservation, biotechnology, environmental health or environmental protection.
Eligibility
- To be eligible for the AJ & IM Naylon PhD scholarship, a student must:
- be an Australian citizen or a New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident at the closing date for applications; and
- intend to commence full time study for a PhD, for the first time, in the year for which the award is offered; and
- have completed a Bachelors degree with First Class Honours, or an equivalent level of academic attainment.
- An AJ & IM Naylon PhD scholarship will not be awarded to a student who:
- is in receipt of an award which directly duplicates the purpose of the AJ & IM Naylon PhD scholarship; and/or
- is on paid study leave; and/or
- holds a fractional academic appointment; and/or
- holds a Research Doctorate or equivalent.
Selection Criteria
Selection of award holders will be undertaken by the Scholarships Committee based on academic merit and research potential.
Applications will be ranked according to the Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Ranking Guidelines.
The AJ & IM Naylon PhD Scholarship will be awarded to the highest ranked eligible post graduate research scholarship applicant in the field of agriculture and inland aquaculture, particularly in the areas of biodiversity and conservation, biotechnology, environmental health, environmental protection.

Applications should be submitted online through the Flinders University Student System by the specified closing date. The Scholarship is called Higher Degree Research Scholarship Main Round - Grouping Reward in both portals. Please read the how to apply page and ensure all of your personal details are up-to-date in the Student System as you will be assessed using this information. Select the Submit an application button below. Here you can create your profile or log in if you are already a student or recent student. Once you are able to log in to the Student System, you will be able to lodge your application.

One application will apply for both the AGRTPS, the FURS and any other scholarship opportunities that may be available during the round.
