Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship

The Clare Burton Memorial Scholarship was established to honour and continue the work of Dr Clare Burton, a leading researcher, public sector administrator, academic, consultant and writer on employment equity. It is funded by the Clare Burton Memorial Fund, which is held by QUT.

This scholarship is open to students of all Australian universities who are undertaking research degrees at the master and doctoral levels.

In 2026, there is one Clare Burton Memorial Scholarships on offer. The scholarship is valued at $10,000 as a one-off research allowance.

To apply for the scholarship, you must be:

• either an Australian citizen, permanent resident, permanent humanitarian visa holder or a New Zealand citizen
• a current research student at an Australian university, enrolled either full-time or part-time in a research degree (i.e. Doctor of Philosophy, professional doctorate or Master of Philosophy)
• You must be pursing research where the major piece of work is focused on gender equity.  This encompasses women and equality in all spheres of endeavor including (but not limited to) employment, education, health, communications, engineering and science.
• have completed at least the first milestone of your research degree
  • 'milestone' means a mandatory candidature event that is an internal review of a student’s progress or a dissemination of research. You should speak with your university's research office for guidance.
