Description
This scholarship aims to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in the Bachelor of Science and encourage them to follow a water resources management study pathway in the second and third years of their degree at Flinders University.
The scholarship was established through the Commonwealth Government’s National Water Grid Fund to encourage greater diversity in the water resources management sector.
Eligibility
Applicants for the scholarship must:
• be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; and
• identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander; and
• be accepted as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander by the community in which they live or have lived; and
• be enrolled full-time at Flinders University*; and
• be enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Science.
*Scholarships are available to part-time students in exceptional circumstances, which include (but are not limited to) disability, illness or carer responsibilities. Part-time scholarship recipients will receive the pro-rata value of the full-time scholarship.
This scholarship cannot be held concurrently with other major University scholarships.
Selection Criteria
The Scholarship will be awarded based on:
- An interest in working in water resource management or environmental sustainability; and
- Academic merit (ATAR score or equivalent).
All applications deemed eligible will be assessed against these criteria by a panel consisting of representatives from the College of Science & Engineering and the Office of Indigenous Strategy and Engagement in conjunction with Student Finance and Scholarships.
Condition of Award
The scholarship is awarded for up to 3-years of full-time study* subject to satisfactory academic progress and the student continuing a water study pathway including enrolment in the following subjects:
Second Year
• ENVS2761 Catchment and Urban Hydrology ENVS2101 Water Quality and Pollution.
Third Year
• EASC3741 Physical Hydrogeology or EASC3700 Australian Groundwater School ENVS3731 Ecohydrology, Soil and Climate
If students do not enrol in the approved pathway, the scholarship will be terminated.
