Jessie Cooper Scholarship for Women

The Jessie Cooper Scholarship for Women has been established to provide financial assistance for mature age women facing financial or personal circumstances in the final year of their undergraduate degree.

The scholarship was established in 1994 through the fundraising efforts of the former Flinders Alumni Association who sought to address the growing concern of retention rates of women in their final year of study. The support recognised the anniversary of 100 years since the establishment of the South Australian women’s suffrage movement and honours the first female elected to State Parliament, Jessie Cooper.

Subject to sufficient funds being available, there will be one scholarship to the value of $2,000.

Applicants for the scholarship must:

• be a mature-aged female (aged 21+); and
• be normally enrolled as a full-time student; and
•  have normally gained entry to the University either by Adult Entry (VET qualification, Foundation Studies or Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT)); and
• • be in the last year of their first undergraduate degrees; and
• • be in receipt of means-tested government payments or be able to demonstrate financial hardship.

* Recipients who have extenuating circumstances that prevent them from studying full-time (e.g. disabilities, illness, or carer responsibilities) may apply to hold their scholarship part-time subject to the provision of satisfactory independent documentation.
