Description
The Lumley Top-up Scholarships Program supports students commencing their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2026. The Foundation is seeking to support individuals from any discipline undertaking their PhD on a topic that aligns with at least three of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and has the potential to contribute to systemic change for health access and welfare outcomes.

Scholarship funds are intended to support all reasonable costs associated with the recipient’s capacity to undertake their research and successfully complete their PhD. This may include but is not limited to:

To be eligible to apply, candidates must:
Applications will primarily be assessed based on the relevance of the applicant’s topic to the Foundation’s nominated area of focus and its potential for impact.
In the event of having more strong applications than are available, the applicant’s individual circumstances and need, with consideration to applicants who might otherwise experience barriers to the timely completion of their PhD without the Foundation’s support, may contribute to the Foundation’s final decision making when selecting successful applications.
Selection Criteria
Final decisions regarding scholarships will be made by the Council of the Kathleen Lumley Foundation. Decisions will be at the discretion of the Foundation and will not be open to appeal.
Lodgement of an application for this top up scholarship is confirmation of consent for the application form and information such as is required for the effective administration of the program to be shared with the Kathleen Lumley Foundation.
