Description

We are seeking candidates for a PhD scholarship for an industry funded research project focused on inclusive education: Establishing a Schoolwide Multi-Tiered System of Support for Inclusive Education. The project is a long-term partnership between the Flinders University Research in Inclusive & Specialised Education (RISE) team within the College of Education, Psychology and Social Work, and Riverbanks College, to support the establishment of Schoolwide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for inclusive education. It is based on an iterative co-design approach, such that specific components and strategies to address the College’s broad aims will develop over time and in collaboration, as Riverbanks College and its priorities related to inclusive education develop. Within this project, the PhD candidate will have scope to research an area of interest that addresses tiered academic, social, emotional and/or behavioural MTSS (e.g., Schoolwide Positive Behaviour Support). This scholarship provides an excellent opportunity for a suitable candidate to develop academic and applied research skills while working with a team of experienced researchers and educators in an area of national significance.

Benefits

The scholarship includes:

a stipend valued at $33,000* per annum (2023 rate) tax free
a Research Training Program Fee Offset Scholarship to cover tuition fees for Australian Citizens, NZ Citizens and Permanent Residents.

The scholarship is awarded for three years; PhD completion may be extended to four years.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the award of this scholarship a student must:

Be an Australian citizen; or New Zealand citizen; or have been granted permanent resident status; and

meet PhD admission requirements including: an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A or equivalent qualification (at least AQF Level 8), including a research component of at least 6 months (e.g., Master’s dissertation) achieving Distinction (75%) OR including evidence of equivalent research experience, such as a substantial first-author refereed publication or track record as an investigator on a competitive grant; and
be available to commence as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University admitted by July 3, 2023

The applicant is successful in being awarded the scholarship

The applicant confirms in the application for PhD admission that, if they are not successful in being awarded the scholarship, their supervisors agree that the project and enrolment can still proceed and the applicant agrees to this.

All other applications for PhD admission lodged in line with this scholarship opportunity will not be assessed and will be withdrawn.
