PhD Scholarship - Environmental Fate of Perchlorate in Australia

Description

Perchlorate (ClO₄⁻) is a persistent and highly soluble oxyanion increasingly being recognised as a contaminant of concern internationally. This exciting project aims to investigate the environmental behaviour, distribution, and management of perchlorate across Australia. Whilst primarily based at Flinders University, candidates will work collaboratively with the Energetic Materials Research Network (EMRNet) partners and may be required to undertake fieldwork and laboratory studies at other locations.

Benefits

Stipend amount of $40,000 p/a indexed at 3% for up to four years.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Meet Flinders University PhD admission requirements (Honours I/IIA, Masters, or equivalent research experience).
• Be an Australian Citizen and eligible for an Australian Government baseline Security Clearance.
• Be able to provide a National Police Clearance (issued within the last 3 months).
• Take up the scholarship within 3 months of the offer (extensions up to 3 months may be approved in exceptional cases).
• Meet any additional requirements of partnering organisations (e.g., additional security or background checks).

Desirable:

• Background in analytical chemistry, environmental health, microbiology, environmental engineering, chemistry, or related fields.
• Hands-on experience with field sampling, contaminant analysis, environmental modelling, or microbial processes (depending on applicant background).
